Day 56 - Wednesday 8/12

Flips and flops

Becky kept up her loops, as did most of the others.. Austin and twins had a long backyard talk with Meg and Jackie, about Shelli going and their mutual plans for double eviction.. Shelli saw them from inside and when it broke up, she cornered Meg and Jackie in their dental office, saying she didn't understand why they'd consider keeping Vanessa instead of her, and reiterating her "free nom" pass to put up Austin at some point.. she even sort of volunteered to go up against him if it comes to that, in order to break up the Austin plus twins three-vote block

Past history continued to be dredged up in all corners, and it's a fair bet we'll be having these talks and "flip flops" all day and night.. their usual Wednesday night bowling is scheduled, and that could be our only reprieve

They were shown 16 short comedic videos from the season, presumably for tomorrow's first HOH comp.. they proceeded to spend most of the evening studying, but they broke for an hour or so for their weekly Wednesday bowling.. the sponsor products display was bigger than ever, and a good time was had by all

Whether from taking Vanessa's "hard to get" advice or something else, Austin distanced himself from Liz a bit more than usual, leading her to notice and complain to Julie and Vanessa about it.. studying picked up in earnest after bowling in various combos.. Vanessa had a very long chat with Johnny at one point, more or less pitching a partnership to him (on Day 56!).. she also paid a visit to HOH to tell Becky if she stays, she doesn't want things to be uncomfortable, and that she's "a mature adult"

As of now, Shelli's probably still going, but we know how this group can be - it's not set in stone until they cast their votes.. they were still flip-flopping like crazy at 2.30am, and don't forget what Vanessa pulled out of her sleeve last Thursday afternoon - she wasn't even on the block for that

Day 55 - Tuesday 8/11

Shirtgate

The camera came out and they did their weekly posting and duckfacing.. to their credit, they got a little creative this time, including Have-nots plus Becky in crown, since she said in her blog she "visits the peasants" in the dental office sometimes.. they also did poses with and kissing the shark, bikini girls surrounding Steve, and bikini girls in a Busby Berkeley style overhead shot on the circular lounge, snapped by Austin

Vanessa continued to lay low with occasional vote talks, and Shelli continued to appear unconcerned about being on the block.. James, Jackie, Meg discussed keeping Vanessa, since they figured she'll go after Becky rather than them.. James and Meg also said Becky should go "sooner than later".. apparently Diary confirmed to James that Shelli did indeed take that Clay shirt she found in his things yesterday, and he got a little worked up about it (while wearing a twin's kitty hat), and he kicked a pair of Shelli's slippers under a sofa to "hide" them

Gametalks revved up all over town, including James and Austin, Vanessa and James, and Shelli and Steve, with the end result being Vanessa might stay after all, but keep in mind it's only Tuesday.. Steve's earlier hesitancy to promise Vanessa his vote came back to bite him behind his back, as she told all and sundry he couldn't be trusted any more than Becky because he, Johnny, and Shelli were in a solid alliance out to get them all.. that's an exaggeration she picked up from what Steve told her, but she ran with it and now most or all of them believe it.. incidentally, The Powers That Be (or their interns) finally picked up on the Steve/Vanessa partnership, but they tagged the convo that basically dissolved it as a feeds highlight titled "Final Two Deal" - huh?

They got a meager booze delivery and they all ate family dinner together, except Steve - I don't know where he was, other than out of another loop.. I don't think Becky and Vanessa had been in the same room as each other since the veto meeting.. the fact that most of them fail to notice the nominees' mood changes every week speaks volumes about the observation skills of these hamsters

Psst-pssting carried on, like it does, as did silliness.. Becky started up her anti-Vanessa loops again, and told Meg how Vanessa is plugged in with Austin and twins, and Meg told Becky that she, James, Jackie think Shelli would go for them at double eviction, if Shelli wins.. Becky turned around and took that to Shelli, and told her she better make some deals with Have-nots

Day 54 - Monday 8/10

Black Friday Boss

Steve used his veto on himself, obviously, and Becky put up Vanessa in his place, as planned.. afterwards Vanessa took to her bed and grilled Shelli about whether she knew or not.. Shelli did know but said she didn't, and may have protested too much - that could come back to haunt her

Vanessa claimed she knew there'd be a blindside since they were woken up early like the last time, so she dressed up for the meeting.. she ran her loops to Shelli and to Steve who came to check on her.. she said Becky had made a mistake by sending out a power juror, and she told Shelli she'll fight to stay, but she won't say a bad word about Shelli in doing so

Apparently Vanessa said something to or about Austin when it all came down at the meeting.. Becky further explained things to him and the twins - he'd been told Vanessa was going up before the meeting and he told Liz; everyone else already knew - then Austin and twins dropped in on Vanessa to say hi.. Vanessa eventually teared up a bit to Shelli, and said this was a compliment and that it was a good game move by Becky

It didn't take long for Vanessa to recharge and confront Becky to ask why she wasn't given a heads up.. Becky let her rant for just a moment before laying into her about "you're always talking about your word, your word" and how Vanessa's finger-pointy demands for their words pissed her off.. Becky got up and walked away after just a few minutes, and Vanessa freaked out a little - Flashback 8/10 11.52am.. Becky's prior statement that she's worked Black Friday as a manager and can handle Vanessa was definitely proven true.. Vanessa took her first retell to Jackie, James, Meg in the dental office, pointlessly - they laughed afterward

Marooned 3.0

Things were mostly quiet through the afternoon and evening.. not-so-notable events included Shelli deciding James had stolen several of Clay's shirts and vowing to get them back, another skywriting plane with a message not for them, exercise class, and the usual chit-chat, napping, and snacking.. Vanessa started up again when Julia and Steve visited her, saying with breathy sobs that nobody had talked to her for seven hours and she didn't want to "go out there with that fuckin bitch".. she also said she didn't even want the money (she may have come close to a truth-slip there), she asked if anyone knew why she's on the block, and she accused Steve of knowing about the plan to target her

She also continued to upgrade her earlier confrontation with Becky.. when Steve asked if they should leave her alone she said yes, then muttered "fake motherfuckers" under her covers.. Johnny overheard some of those mutterings and offered to give her a hug, which she accepted

For the record, the Flashback for the now infamous finger pointy "give me your word" deal is 8/4 9.52pm

LINES OF THE DAY

Wednesday
Austin to Meg/Jackie/twins: Becky's brought us even closer with some of this shit, which she probably never thought that would happen

Johnny: The trend is Vanessa yells at you, and your picture goes gray

James: All jokes aside, as long as BB Bowling is still on for tonight, that's all that matters

Shelli: All this information you're giving me is coming from the person next to me on the block, is it not?
Jackie: Most of it, yeah

Johnny: They don't trust you because Vanessa's telling them that you were bringing info down to us
Becky: I have been.. fuck, so my team caught on?
Johnny: No, Vanessa's making that up that you're going to Shelli, not to me
Becky: Fuck

Liz Diary about Austin: It's grown into a little bit more than [strategy].. his personality won me over

Becky Diary: My plan has been working out almost too good

Tuesday
Steve: Are you sure the Goblins are going to vote against Vanessa?
Johnny: 100%

Meg about James wearing Clay's shirt: It's as if you went hunting and then wore the fur coat around

James: I don't even know the definition of sexist
Austin: I guess you're just a chauvinist, you're anti-women
James: Aw hell, I Iove 'em!

John: Are Austin and twins trying to keep Vanessa?
Steve: I think they know they can't

Vanessa to Steve: You gotta let go, you're trying to control too much

Monday
Vanessa to Shelli, about Becky
I don't like hypocrites and she's the biggest hypocrite ever
She's making a big mistake because I'm one hell of a jury member, that girl will not win
At the end of the day it's a compliment.. got me, shit! Shit shit shit! I'm not gonna campaign against you

Becky to Meg: Vanessa, it sucks being next to your friends on the block, thanks for teaching me that trick!

Vanessa to Steve, Julia: Honestly I don't even give a fuck about the money, you guys don't know me in my real life

Ratings - Leaning Hamsters edition

Ratings are based on entertainment value

I wish them luck with the Wednesday and Thursday edits.

Won: Outback dinner (guest)
Still relatively safe and still there. He's voting out an alliance member (and keeping one) either way, so it's no big surprise he was easily swayed from booting Vanessa to booting Shelli. He has no reason to be difficult with the Goblins at this point so why makes waves there?

Won: $10,000; Never Not pass; Outback dinner (guest)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD
Black Friday Boss is about to be transferred to the day-after-Christmas returns desk, and as of now, she doesn't have a clue. I hope it stays that way. Blindsides are tough on them but they're our lifeblood.

Won: 1 week 6 days knight; 24 hours Vanessa polish
More of the same. Her laugh bugs me but I realize that's my problem, and I'd rather have them laughing than crying all the time.

Won: Outback dinner
He liked James's Angels for his girl group name but Goblins seems to have taken hold. Personally, I would have gone with James Gang but what do I know? Talk about easily swayed - it only took one short convo with Vanessa to turn his head and his vote. Granted, he hasn't been listening to her all season like we have.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
He's almost in trouble since Vanessa found out he had the audacity to buddy up with Shelli and Steve when they found out they were on the outs, but he's been almost in trouble all along and he's still there.

Won: ½ week Wackstreet
More of the same. I still think she's funny but there's not much fun to be had these days with all the Vanessa melodrama.

Won: ½ week Wackstreet, Outback dinner
More of the same. She continues to encourage Austin and complain about his attentions to Julia, who also continues to encourage him but in a funny way. But really, if Liz doesn't like it, it's down to her to say something to him. Maybe she does like it. Maybe we'll never know.

Won: Gronk party cruise
More of the same. She's gametalking more than she used to but with eight votes, each of them counts including hers. She's also leaning just as much as ever.

Won: 2,400 battles
NOMINATED
She's a lot better without her boyish anchor but now it's looking like we won't get to see much of her solo act. Unless she wins her way back in a couple weeks anyway, which she has a good shot to do against most of them, depending what kind of comp they use for Revive-a-Hamster. Unlike Vanessa, I think Shelli actually believes most of her own lies.

WON/USED VETO ON SELF
Like Johnny, he's been on the edge of being in trouble all along but it's getting serious now. Vanessa's trash-talking him all over town and while she's still telling him to his face she's got his back, she might not. Then again she might. It's hard to tell with her.

Won: Outback dinner; 24 hours polishing Jackie
NOMINATED
We're all tired of her lies and hypocrisy while proclaiming she hates liars and hypocrites, but she's a very good example of a very simple yet ridiculously effective manipulation tactic: tell people something enough times and they'll believe it. It sounds so basic and she seems so transparent, but she keeps being successful. Commercials and politicians use the same technique.

Won: Ireland trip; Outback dinner (guest)
He started badly, calling himself a 'superfan' after being recruited at a basketball game and marathoning a few seasons. He said BB is about making new friends and memories, and he had a problem with lies and backstabs except when he was doing it. He spent most of his time stapled to Shelli and they got a lot of mother/son jokes, but I saw them more as creepy Lannisters, especially when she went on about how like her brother he is. He provided loads of unintentional comedy, weird mouth things and mumbling translations, he peed in HOH shower, and he got out just in time.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
Another superfan who found out it's easier to play BB from home, he fell into Vanessa's disastrous Renom Roulette wheel and went out earlier than many hoped. He got mouthy about many of them and popped some good funnies, but he laid around most of the time until it was too late. He gave us some of the best reaction faces of all time, especially the night they played squicky truth or dare - he even had a dedicated cam for much of it. He mentioned this site often, usually saying it's 'hard to navigate' so he'll probably never see this.

Won: Nothing
She was erratic and unpredictable, and the random ways she kept them stirred up made for some of the best feeds in ages. And as a bonus, she featured in all the fights, many because the others didn't believe her telling truths. They did buy most of the fibs, and without 'empirical evidence,' but they fell for her wacky gameplay more than twice. She marooned herself in a bed and a dental chair, with some laughs in between, and she got the 2nd ever penalty vote. I enjoyed watching her, and will miss her.

Won: Nothing
I haven't given many empty wheels before their time, and I don't think any of those got them as early as he did. But we've never had such a misogynistic, inappropriate, and unfunny pig before. CBS let him get away clean and that's what it is - I'm just glad to see the back of him.

Won: Power to nullify 3 votes
She wasn't afraid to confront people nor to keep fighting to stay, which was good for us, but didn't help her much. She figured out the twins early but didn't leverage that to her advantage soon or well enough. Her 'game on' fight with Audrey and pantry rant to us were memorable, especially her catch-phrase 'get your life!' She was smart, funny, and volatile. She didn't let us take full advantage of #DaVonneHasADaughter, a hashtag that was too good to be true.

Won: Nothing
He was like a parody of all the former surf boys we've had, with all the worst qualities of asshat hamsters past rolled into one. He verbally beat up on Steve a few times but the primetime version earned him viewer loathing, even if his actoring was lousy. He ranted, streaked, flipped us off, and mostly talked about himself, but he promised to save us all someday through music.

They erroneously said last year that BB16 would have 'the most houseguests ever' but this year they really did, with 17 total after the twins split into separate entities. Now my symmetry for this section is out of whack and I don't know what to put here.

Big Brother 17 FAQ
June 18 was Day 1 move-in. June 24 was CBS premiere, Day 7. Finale will be September 23, Day 98

Feeds are streamed by CBS, and accessible via All Access subscription. Call 888-274-5343 for account help, including cancellation.

CBS shows are Sundays 8pm, Wednesdays 8pm, eviction Thursdays 9pm (Global in Canada).

Big Brother After Dark is on POP (formerly TVGN). It airs Monday, Tuesday 11pm-2am; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday midnight-2am; Thursday 1am-3am. The aired blocks are recorded earlier on the same night.

The CBS app (by CBS Interactive) will play BB air shows and other CBS shows, but not feeds. Use your browser to watch feeds on mobile devices. The same All Access link used to subscribe will lead to the feeds viewing page if you're already signed up.

Liz and Julia had to survive five evictions in order to play separately as individuals, which they did, with Julia officially entering the game on Day 43. They switched places every few days. They had a limited time in Diary to change clothes, adjust their appearance, and exchange info. The non-playing twin was sequestered in a 'house,' possibly the jury house.

BB17 prizes are the same: $500k for the winner and $50k for 2nd place. Stipend for the others is $1,000 per week again, including pre-show hotel and jury sequester. Recruits or those with established pre-season fan bases might get more.

The habitat has 80 HD cameras (up four) and over 100 microphones.

The recorded in-house announcements are the voice of producer Don Wollman.
